Fluor Signs $1.1 billion Pemex EPC Contract
Global engineering and construction firm Fluor has signed a contract with Mexican state-run energy firm Pemex to develop and upgrade the Tula Refinery at Hidalgo, Mexico.
The contract is valued at US$1.1 billion and will include engineering, procurement and construction, or EPC, services for utilities and offsites. It will be conducted by Fluor subsidiary, ICA Fluor, through a joint venture with Empresas ICA. ICA Fluor’s share of the contract is valued at US$550 million.
Once complete the upgrade work will expand the refinery’s processing capacity from 315,000 to 340,000 barrels per day.
Fluor also won praise for its EPC services from the Project Management Institute this week. The institute awarded Chevron’s El Segundo Refinery Coke Drum Reliability Project as its 2015 Project of the Year, a project on which Fluor provided EPC management services.
“Through close collaboration with Chevron and all stakeholders, we met a significant challenge and helped deliver this project ahead of schedule, under budget and, most importantly, safely,” said Jim Brittain, Fluor Energy & Chemicals Americas president.
